The gilt on the backstrip is darkened. There is discoloration on the upper and lower backstrip. There is a pressed decoration on the back cover. The cover corners are lightly bumped. The endpapers are brown and good. There is a penned signature of William Hawkin of Edinburgh on a blank pre-title page dated 1880. There is heavy foxing in the margin of the frontispiece and title page. The tissue is enclosed. The Table of Contents is nine pages. There are full page black and white illustrations The outer edge of the pages are gilded. The pages are soft with mild tanning.
